A CUSTOM-BUILT, THREE-STORY HOME IN HERMOSA BEACH WITH SWEEPING VIEWS OF THE PACIFIC.
When we first started working with this family, we were planning a remodel for their detached townhouse in Hermosa Beach. With overflowing creativity and a need for more space, they decided to change directions and start from scratch with a custom-built home on a larger lot. This gave us the incredible opportunity to work with them to perfect their new modern dream home.
MASTER BATHROOM
Each bathroom in the home has its own unique personality. For the master, we incorporated luxurious spa influences including a floating vanity cabinet with quartz stone top, brushed gold Kohler fixtures and wallcoverings by Harlequin.
GUEST BATHROOMS
It’s all about the details… and this home has many subtle design details that incorporate elevated interiors and playful elegance. We wanted to do a modern beach home without being too “beach-y.” With Fornasetti wall coverings and a unique bubble mirror which gives an underwater illusion, we were able to deliver beach vibes with a high-end abstract twist.
KITCHEN & LIVING AREA
The owners have a passion for cooking and entertaining, therefor we knew only a professionally equipped kitchen designed for a cook would do. Design elements and finishes were chosen for high-end function. The Viking appliances, glass door side by side refrigerators and a large center island with a custom cut out for storing doggie dishes were all part of the perfect kitchen for the professional entertainer!
The kitchen and family room space is ideal for entertaining. The open concept kitchen leads straight into the family room that overlooks the ocean. To make these rooms distinct, yet connected, we brought in pops of ocean teal and gold throughout. The colors and patterns were carefully chosen to reflect the natural elements of living life at the beach. We wanted the blue and gold tones to represent the water and sand and selected a wavy rug that resembles the natural patterns found in the sand.
HALLWAYS & STAIR LANDING
Working similar design elements throughout a house is always important when determining finishes and decor. It provides continuity & cohesiveness and that’s why this wallcovering by Harlequin was also utilized in the stair landing. It’s easy on the eyes, but also adds a bit of drama. Its minimal aesthetic makes it a very versatile design that can be applied to many types of rooms.
The art sculptures mimic life preservers, perfect for this home that’s located in a beach town. Again, beach home style without being too “beach-y.”
CHILDREN’S BEDROOMS
This bedroom is easily the best retreat for a young girl with style. We wanted to create a space that blended with the rest of the home but also had it’s own youthful personality. The unique lighting pendant is a bent wood chandelier piece by LZF that reminds us of a beautiful ribbon on a gift box, tying the room together. The pendant light complements the teal color in the wallpaper which is multi-colored grasscloth by Scalamandre. For the room’s “statement piece”, we chose the iconic hanging bubble chair by Eero Aarnio to take this modern home into a stylish space age.
HOME OFFICE
When designing the family’s home office space, we were inspired by a pair of paintings created by the children. We used the collage of pigments and textures found in the paintings as our foundation when designing the space. The carpet, from Flor, depicts sound waves of water (another ode to their beach location) all while giving the room a playful and energetic feel with the bright colors.
